Barry GroulxAs I understand it, the quagga was never a species in its own right, but a particular color morph. It's classified as a subspecies, which means that nature made it from the zebra so these guys can re-make it from the zebra.

Actually the quagga is scientifically the main zebra species and the current zebra are subspecies.
The Burchells Zebra used to be Equus burchelli now it's quagga equus burchelli ( I think)
These went extinct during the early settlers arrival along with the cape lion and the blue buck.
However they have a breeding programme where they are using Burchells zebra to try and re-breed the quaggas characteristic hide

376 steyrI read that article and they suggested it wasn't really the real thing. Of course it's the real thing! If it's a subspecies then sure you can breed back to it from the parent species.
