I can se your point, but for me this is more simple then so. I like to be in the company in agreeable, decent people, who share my interests and attitudes and have a serious approach to what we are doing. I would indeed much rather hunt in the company of a women who meets these standards, than with a convivial man who are uninterested in the hunting, the animals and the nature.

Trophy wives, I agree, are another matter and often as not a nuisance wherever they are, and my consolation when encountering them is that I at least don't have to listen to them a breakfast. [Big Grin]

All in all, I am surprised by your reactions. At least, I am glad that you respect Ann's presence on the forum... [Confused]

OK, the curmudeons are really out in force here. A Pox on you all, long live women that hunt and men who like them! [Razz]

Hmm, now I feel sorry for all the guides and PH's (who have suffered unknowingly to me) for having to tackle a serious hunt and not be able to behave like REAL men. Poor things, I had no idea!

Let's see, they had to struggle along and remain gentlemen and try their best not to focus on my ass, my hair, my chest, my face and resolve not to fart, burp, spit, curse and dribble food at the diner table. Horrors at the struggle they must have felt being so restricted and only able to focus on hunting beasts. Guess knowing this now I should tip even better. Perhaps some men will do anything for a little money, eh? [Roll Eyes]

Even worse, the knowlege I was looking at their ass as they lead the way through the thorn bushes. Yeah, I've been blessed with some good looking guides and PH's, actually most were pretty hot, but it did not ruin my hunting experience at all. [Razz]

Kind of enhanced it, my trophy photos look better and I've taken some nice game due to their unusual ability to remain focused on the job. [Cool]

Some people like spicy food I guess and others are well, on the bland side. It surprises me a lot of you DBG hunters are so bland. [Eek!]

I never would have guessed. Learn something new every day!

Some of you guys here are real sweethearts and I am glad to see your courage in posting. [Smile]

I wonder why so many men and male clients I know WISH for the women in their life to share field sports with them.

Guess those people live in some sort of alternate REALM.

Jill Kleynhans, wife of the PH, Claude Kleynhans of Mafigeni Safaris is an accomplished PH in her own right! She is a wonderful person in and out of hunting camp.

I would hunt the long grass with Jill any day!

As far as sharing my camp with women, that doesn't bother me a bit. Heck, after I took my wife with me, I couldn't go without her.

I think a woman carrying a rifle looks beautiful.
Well, to each his own, but just because she's a woman is no reason not to hunt with a PH.

Of course you might just be in a bad mood cause your knuckles are sore from drag'n that big old club behind ya! [Big Grin]

Having your wife in camp is just peachy for you but I don't know how many others in camp appreciate it.

It's sort of like your dog. You love your dog to no end but that doesn't mean anybody else does, or should.

I wouldn't mind hunting with a female PH. One can have some hell of a lot of funny conversations/cameradery with women when out hunting. What I mean is that it's not the gender, but the kind of person the PH is that matters.

Female "PH"? Not for me. Female hunters? Great.
Those who watched my video may recall the wife of my "PH" was invited along. She brought "good humor" as they say in Zim. THe trip before that, I hunted with Randy & Coni Brooks, of Barnes Bullets. I've met no tougher hunter than Coni.

Female PHs. No problem. I wouldn't mind hunting with a female PH who had a good reputation one day.

In fact when I was last in Zim I made enquiries about an Aussie girl who used to PH based out of Vic Falls. Unfortunately she and her Zim husband had divorced and she had moved on to manage a camp in Botswana.

I like hunting with male PHs. Good cameraderie. Actually I would prefer to hunt with mates self guided if given a choice.

The main problem these girls would have is randy clients and they would probably be more reserved because of it.

No women in camps? I have found a lot of camps have a husband/wife team with the wifey doing the camp manager role.

If the PH was as good looking as Natasha Illum Berg that wouldn't be a negative. Why should only the women clients and guests get all the eye candy. It would also make some great client/PH/game trophy photos. [Big Grin]

MMmmmm. On reflection I think it would be necessary to do the "Italian" camera trick here otherwise my "wifey" might never let me go again. [Razz]

If the female PH smokes cigars even better. And I have known girls who smoked them with the best.

As for abilities, when I first visited Zimbabwe/Zambia I went for a white water rafting trip down the Zambezi. All the river guides were chicks. Most of them were Yank ski instructors in the Northern winter and spent the off season doing white water rafting. The guide my boat had was in her early twenties, only about 5 foot 2 or 3. And she could manoeuvre and row single handed that boat all day. This was back when Sobek was the only Zambezi rafting company.

The guys here who think they would have to "protect" the poor little girl from the bities. Get real! [Roll Eyes]

PS I hope N. Illum Berg has not lost her husband and that is only a rumour. Hardly a thing to post as a positive [Frown]

PPS I also would much rather hunt with a quietly competent European girl than a big mouthed over egotistical blow hard American "all"-male PH.

Don't get me wrong...........I am all in favor of women hunting as much as possible. I am green with envy every time I read about one of Ann's adventures.
The original question asked if we would hire a female PH. My answer is NO.

I think the relationship between the hunter and the PH would be different. A beautiful female PH would be a distraction.

I would not pay to hunt with a female PH, but I would hunt with a female PH if someone else were paying.

As a side note, I have taught a couple women to shoot, none of them wanted to hunt. It is really to bad, I think they would have made good hunters.

Well, now - I'd best pop off to the boys' room (or is that the girls' room???) to go check on a few things I've been taking for granted all these years! [Eek!]

I suppose I would also never have paid to hunt with no wimmenfolk. That was before I met Hanne. She's in her late fifties, she leopard-crawls with the best, will climb a tree at the drop of a hat, and when she shoulders her little Heym over / under combination, you'd better believe that something's going down real soon, whether it's a 3-metre black mamba, a poacher's dog, or a big ol' Wildebeest. She's a bit of a strategist in the field, too. Further, she has a slow, laid-back yet very thorough way about her in the bush, which I like.

Us South Africans believe that a father shouldn't teach his son to hunt in the early stages - it puts the kid under pressure to perform, and we all know what pressure does to tyro's in the field. [Big Grin]

Is anybody surprised that I asked Hanne to guide my own son on his first serious hunts? Hell, I'm glad I did! So call me a wussy.

I can't think of any noises to be produced by a man in a hunting camp, and that are unfit for ladies ears by any standards, which are welcomed at all in polite society. So please enlighten us if you don't want us to draw the wrong conclusions! [Razz]

Quite an enlightening thread. It seems it would pay a lady PH to choose her clients carefully.
It almost seems that some of ours posters are insecure in the presence of a capable woman, more so if she is good looking...

Personally, I would have no problem hunting with a lady PH just because of her gender; its the PH ability /attitude that counts...

Would I behave differently? Probably, but I would not see that as a problem.

I do see a couple of areas where a mixed gender camp could cause problems one being that a wife or girlfriend back home may be uncomfortable with the idea. Or perhaps from a logistics point of view but I am not against it on principle.

I don't actually book for Natasha Berg, but Pierre and I know her quite well and could book a hunt with her for anyone who wanted to hunt with her...She is a very good PH and a fine lady...I wouldn't hesitate to hunt with her...Pierre would hire her for a female hunter with us if a lady so requested...Geo. Hoffmans daughter is a PH in Tanz, but not working these days..
