9.3x74r Anyone have experiance with this Cal.

I'm in the process of buying a krieghof o/u rifle in 9.3x74r. It comes with 20 boxes of fresh RWS ammo and 1.5x4 scope. Is this an effective cal. Will it be suitable for moose and elk. I think so, just wanted to confirm and hear some experiences. Thanks.

the 9,3x74R is equal to the 9,3x62. Here in Sweden it would be considered an excellent choice for a double rifle for moose and bear, and also for boar and elk. Everything which is said about the 9,3x62 can be said about the 9,3x74R. Have a look at all threads on 9,3x62 in this forum, and youï¿½ll find many goood words about it. The 9,3x62 is one of Rayï¿½s favourites.

Youï¿½ll find some ballistics at http://www.norma.cc/normawebNY/index.htm There are no considerable differences in the ballistics. RWS ammo is reliable and of high quality.

Krieghoff is one of the best german gun makers, and known for the their skills and hign quality.

BTW: What model of o/u double rifle is it? And what scope and mounts?

Agreed, the 9,3x74R is the (rimmed) ballistic twin of the 9,3x62. Great caliber that kills like lightning. My standard drive hunt rifle is a (handmade in Belgium) FN-Browning o/u + a Swarovski 1,25-4x24 in claw mounts

Nice rifle. I passed up on the same with a matching set of 20 bore barrels. I kick myself but then I tell myself I don't have to worry about regulating etc

The 9.3X74R is one of the most overlooked rounds for hunting in the world today! It is only slightly less powerful than the 375 H&H flanged, and is just about perfect for woods hunting of anything in North America, or Europe. It is additionally the minimum chambering for dangerous game in most African countries.

I have a S/S double rifle by Merkel (mod 140E) chambered for 9.3X74R, and it is a replacement for a Husky Mod 410 double rifle that I used to own, and like a fool, sold!

There isn't a better Moose rifle or chambering than a good double rifle chambered for 9.3X74R. I think you will be quite happy with the rifle, and if you aren't, give me a shot at buying it before you sell!

You had a Husky double and sold it??? These rifles are rare and here you only get them to very high prices. Have a look at it here: http://hem.bredband.net/b102212/singles.html Wait for loading and you find it at the bottom of the page.

I am also very fond of 9,3x74R. it is as good as 9,3x62 and according to "Ganyana" in ZA "MAN MAGNUM" magazine: "-The only different between .375 H&H and the 9,3x62 is that a solid bullet will whistle straight through an elephant or a Buffalo 200fps faster from a .375 H&H than a 9,3x62 and so has more energy to expand on the environment."

I have a common Robert Hubner, Anson & Deeley drilling, made before the Great War with the configuration 16/16 shoot gun barrels and a 9,3x74R rifle barrel. Two clawmounted scopes. One Aimpoint 5000 and a Helia 1,5-6x42. The 9,3x74 combination in a drilling makes very much sence to me because:

With this rifle i would theoretically be able to hunt everything on earth! From the smallest bird to the biggest elephant...

-but it would probably be very interesting to shoot a buffalo or elephant with only one cartridge aviable...
