Horniday 400 gr .475 bullets in .470NE
Has anyone tried the Horniday 400gr, .475 dia. bullets in the .470NE? Does the fact that they are .475 vs. .474 make a difference?

My rifle likes 107gr of H4831 behind 500gr bullets for 2140, what would a good charge be for the 400gr bullet??

Thanks in advance;
Brett

I can't answer your question.

However...

I have used the Hdy 400 grain pistol bullet in my .470 capstick. The charge was 84 grains IMR3031. Low pressure and 1.5 inch accuracy.

Did the 400 grainers hold together? I have loaded some for my Capstick but have not fired any yet. We have had a lousey spring here-- rain and snow Do you think you could use them on light game like Whitetail Deer?

They held together long enough to print groups on the target at 100 yards. I have no idea what they would be like on game, but probably ok on 100 pound whitetails and Texas jackrabbits.
