Great read about a beautiful and historic rifle.

We seldom get to choose
But I've seen them go both ways
And I would rather go out in a blaze of glory
Than to slowly rot away!

Interesting that the H&H records show that the rifle was shot & regulated for the 365 gr SN bullet & not the 480 gr one.

NH,
My 500/450 gun book notes from H&H carry the same notation about shot and regulated for the 365 grain bullet. Believe that was an original loading for the black powder version of the 500/450 and is additional to the 480 grain bullet the weight and charge of which is engraved on the underside of the action.

This is perhaps an early evidence of the 3/4 rule under which the same charge of propellant will regulate with 3/4 the weight of the primary bullet (but somewhat higher on the paper in my experience).

Regards, Tim
