Archery hunting in Zim

sdirksArchery hunting in Zim
My brother and I are in the early stages of planning a hunt in Zimbabwe in a couple years. He wants to hunt with a bow and wonders if there are any requirements as to the type of bow and draw weight for hunting plainsgame species. Such rules are pretty common in the US, but I can't find anything for Zimbabwe. Anyone know?

Kathi http://www.africahunting.com/c...hunting-zimbabwe-76/Link has a lot of information on archery hunting in Zimbabwe.

sdirksThanks, Kathy. Do you know the source of the bowhunting information? I couldn't see a link to any regulations.

sdirksI guess the thing I am most concerned with is whether one can hunt with a longbow. Anyone know that for certain?

Larry SellersShouldn't think a longbow would be a problem. There used to be a rule if wanting to hunt dangerous game with a bow there a special permit was needed. Don't know if this is still the case. I am sure some Zimbo PH's will chime in if they are all not busy at Shows in the US at the moment.
Contact Neil Summers at Bowhunting Safari Consultants and Neil can update you on everything bow hunting in Africa.

brent ebelingLast i checked there are "special license" fees of around $400 per bow and then you are supposed to have a govt guy with you each day you hunt at $50/day. I snuck in a bow tech allegiance last trip over and left it with the ph i hunt with so it would be there for me or anybody else who may want to use it.

MARK H. YOUNGBrent has it right as far as the additional costs go. I'll check on draw weight etc. The most important thing may be to hunt with an archery oriented PH and in an are that is set up for archery.

df06I hunted there in 2012.
Other than the $400 cost for a bow license, there was no restrictions that I recall. I did use a compound.
If you are undecided where to hunt in Zim, I would recommend Rosslyn safaris. They are a couple hours by auto from Bulawayo.
PM me if you want any information.

martin pietersThe requirements kathi posted are correct and are the law as per the parks and wildlife act of 1975!
Wether no one gives a damn or not they are still the law!
The bow permit fees were increased by parks to $1500 per permit, plus over $100/ day for your accompanying scout ( some companies will pay this themselves )
As far as long bows, talk to your operator who will apply for a special permit!

jbderunzI know no other place than Africa where You are offered to shoot through long grass or scrub, having to take a chance when it comes.
I second Mark, opt for a PH who knows the requirements of bow hunting : animals not to shy or scared, fairly open country but close enough to allow a safe approach. For most of PHs an approach at 50m is a perfect approach, not so for us.
