Elephant Hunt with CMS June 2011 (reclassified from private, please try again)
Here is a short clip of the Tuskless portion of my 2011 hunt with CMS. This was primarily a Leopard hunt with the Tuslkess thrown in for good measure. She was taken with my 500NE, Merkel Double Rifle, using 570gr. Barnes Banded Solids. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a side brain shot instead of a frontal, and a bit far for my taste, but being caught out in the open, that's the best we could do this time.

This was a great experience for me to enjoy a Safari with one of my favorite hunting partners, my son Garrett who was 16 at the time. He did a great job shooting bait, including a nice Buffalo Cow. I'll post clips of his buff and the Leopard at a later date. I added a few stils to the end of the clip showing Garrett passing out toys and supplies to a local village with Elephant meat drying in the background. He learned first hand how hunting benefits the local people.

I post these from time to time because I enjoy watching other guys' hunts. I hope you'll enjoy mine.

Shoots, let me check on that. I usually post them as private because I want to control who seems them, ie members of this forum and other like minded people.

Give me a few minutes to correct it.

Ok Shoots, I'm sorry about that. I changed it to Unlisted instead of Private.

Please try it again.

That is very nice, Todd.

I enjoyed it and look forward to further clips.

And my wife wants to know where she can download the soundtrack.

That being said, you did an excellent job of anchoring her on the spot and without using sticks. Well put together vid.

Todd,
Thanks for sharing.
"Big ol' cow" is right.
Good job. thumb
And Rick was cheeky enough to say you stalked a "really nice tuskless" that got away the day before?
Well, don't see how you could have done better than what you did.

That music was great.

Is that Enya singing along with the haunting bagpipes? I only have one of her CDs and it doesn't include that one.
What is the title of that song?

For your next clip, I suggest Enya's "Caribbean Blue" which was used for the Jessie the grizzly bear "memorial theme" on an episode of "Northern Exposure."

Then there's Enya's "Storms in Africa" which is just an instrumental with her moaning in the background.

And there's always Toto's: "Africa" ... popcorn

Thanks for all the nice comments guys. I appreciate it. I failed to mention this in the OP but my PH was Rich Tabor. Rich is a great PH, works hard, and gets results. He does walk too fast however!! Smiler

Concerning the range, it was 40 to 50 yards. Really too far but she was alerted and ready to take off. We used the wind to cover our sound in the grass, moving whenever it blew, and freezing when it lulled. As Rich stepped into that depression, I missed his signal to stop and took one last step which she heard. I hit her just a bit low but it worked out.

Concerning the music, I'm glad you guys liked it. That's always very subjective to different tastes. Shooting an elephant can be a "harsh" video subject so I wanted to soften the image a bit. The artist and song are listed at the bottom right of the YouTube page. I believe there is a link to purchase it if desired. Not "Enya" although similar. Lorena McKinnett.

Mike, concerning the YouTube comments, good advice as always!

Thanks again for the comments guys.

RAC, the camera work was done by one of CMS's apprentice hunters as the professional cameraman was already engaged filming Mike Jines in Dandy. We were there at the same time. I did the editing myself. I'm not a pro but I'm learning! I agree with you that Blake did a nice job with the camera.

Wonderful work! That far surpasses 99.9% of the hunting shows on TV...and it's so nice to actually see a real hunter get the job done with no goofing around and wasting time, just raise gun/aim/BOOM! Nicely done!
