Best Wishes for Good Health to Saeed's Younger Brother
Moderators, please move wherever appropriate. I wasn't sure where to post this and posted it here as this is the most visited forum. Thank you and apologies if this is in the wrong place.

Just read the news about Saeed's younger brother not being likely to participate in the next Olympics due to bad health. I hope he gets well soon and is shooting fit. Ahmed is an Olympic gold medalist from the Double Trap event in the last Olympics.

Best wishes to him again and may 2016 bring the opportunity for more medals.

For someone so dedicated, must be quite a disappointment. Prayer said for Sheikh Ahmed.

"Sheikh Ahmed said he cannot bring himself to take a break from shooting because the sport has been so deeply ingrained in him. 'I was born into a family where all they knew was shooting,' he said. 'My father and grandfather were both shooters. I loved shooting when I was a kid and would leave my bike to get rusty but clean my gun every day.'"

Please be careful, Ahmed, if it is a virus that has damaged your heart. Listen to your doctor! Be well soon.... God Bless.

RIP
The 2004 double-trap shooting champion developed a cold and a sore throat while competing in Belgrade, Serbia, in October. When his fitness level began to dip, a trip to the doctor revealed he had developed heart problems.

"I found that my performance was going down. The doctor said I had a heart enlargement but he doesn't know why," said Sheikh Ahmed, who is 48. "It's possible that the virus of my cold loved my heart and went straight into it. We also checked the blood and found a very high percentage of lead."

Dr Ali Sabah Abdul Hussein, a general practitioner at Medcare Hospital in Jumeirah, said: "There is a particular bacteria that causes tonsillitis and, if it is not treated, it can cause rheumatic heart disease, which will affect the valve of the heart.

"[An enlarged heart] is known as cardiomegaly, in which one of the muscles in the heart develops a defect. The result is shortness of breath and continuing exercise would be difficult."

Dr Hussein said the treatment for cardiomegaly, an antiarrhythmic drug called amiodarone, can cause lead poisoning.
************************************************************************************************************************************************

The quoted physician is a "general practitioner" and not a cardiologist or pharmacologist?

Lead toxicity from amiodarone?
Well, that one is a new one to me.
Amiodarone is about 37% iodine by weight and saturates the thyroid with iodine, and is well known to have potential for thyroid side effects.

I suppose it might affect the kinetics of lead, but one would have to have some significant lead exposure to get into any problems ...
like trap shooting?

Lead toxicity could cause a cardiomyopathy.
So could a common cold like virus.
Rheumatic heart disease from streptococcal/bacterial infection also.
Or some combination of the above, or the great unknown called "idiopathic,"
which can strike a prince or an Olympic champion same as you and me ...

Godspeed recovery.

Ahmed is still walking 10 K per day and still shooting: Good signs!
************************************************************************************************************************************************
Sheikh Ahmed said he cannot bring himself to take a break from shooting because the sport has been so deeply ingrained in him.
"I was born into a family where all they knew was shooting," he said. "My father and grandfather were both shooters.
I loved shooting when I was a kid and would leave my bike to get rusty but clean my gun every day."

When he got a new gun, he would sleep next to it - like most children would with a teddy bear.

I slept with my first shotgun too, and so did my little brother. He in the top bunk and I in the bottom bunk.
We had brand new matching 20 guage single shots, 44 years ago, but no ammo.
