Woodleigh Hydro Solids for Elephant
I recently found some 416 Rem Mag Federal Premium ammunition loaded with Woodleigh Hydro Solids.

Has anyone used these on elephants. If so, how did they work??

Thanks!!

You can use any solids.

Hornady's work, and they have relatively thin jackets.

Woodleigh have thicker jackets.

I've used them in my 375 and they perform like they should. Recovered bullets for the most part look like you could reload them again and I have shot 6 or 8 eles with them.

Woodleigh Hydro solids are brass monometal. There is no jacket.

The front end is a unique cup that used to create feeding problems. Woodleigh ended up putting a plastic cap on it to make it feed like any other round nose.

I note Woodleigh now have most of their soft nose bullets back in stock with supplies due to be delivered to two stockists in the USA in the next two months. They will not be making any of their FMJ solids this year so advise those needing solids to use their hydro solids.

My buddy and I did a 2x1 for Ele bulls in 2021. He brought a 416 Rem with Woodleigh Hydro's and they worked great.

I used to use Woodleigh softs when they were available and found them good. I've generally viewed solids as solids and just tried to find something that shat closest to my softs.

I use the Hydro Solids in my .470 and they are great (3 elephants - either as the primary hunter or backing up). Mono-metal with driving bands. Complete penetration and less barrel heat. I've grabbed all the Federal .470 in this bullet I can find.

Already I was beginning to fall into the African way of thinking: That if
you properly respect what you are after, and shoot it cleanly and on
the animal's terrain, if you imprison in your mind all the wonder of the
day from sky to smell to breeze to flowers—then you have not merely
killed an animal. You have lent immortality to a beast you have killed
because you loved him and wanted him forever so that you could always
recapture the day - Robert Ruark

Not ele (yet) but we shot 27 buffalo on a cull and i used lots of 500 grain hydros in .458 lott. they worked great along with the TSX. I would have no problem using them on anything big. Recovered a bunch most looked pretty darn good. I have some for my .470 which i need to go shoot something with….

I used Federal Woodleigh Hydro’s in .416 Remington for bull elephant in 2021, and they worked remarkably well.
