I'll tell you what, if it were me being mauled and a person in my party SAW me, and thought they had a shot I'd want them to take it. I think I'd prefer a bullet to the hip over what I've heard and seen pics of leopards doing to people.

This is very tragic for all concerned.
I hope Punki has a quick and full recovery and returns to the field.
Brittney also, I hope you are able to deal with this well, and know that you reacted with the very best of intentions, and that it was very unfortunate that you could not see Punki because of the tall grass and that time was of the essence.

God bless both hunters! I'll drink a toast tonight to Punki's speedy recovery and Brittany's courage.
No doubt in my mind, given the facts as they were reported, that I would have made the same decision. Damn, if hunting doesn't suck sometimes...

I am glad to hear that Punki is getting better and that he should fully recover.

Britney, take thught about what might have been the out come, if you had not fired that shot that sent chui away. You stood your ground and did your best to make things right. Accidents do happen.

My prayers go out to all involved.

Keith

First I feel for Punki. The poor guy gets mauled and shot. However it could have been any one of us in this situation. I certainly dont fault Brittany. I have interacted with her several times over the last 5 or 6 years. She is a great kid, er correction young lady now. I am showing my age. I think she did the best she could in a bad situation. From what I know of her I am sure she is concerned and feels some guilt, remorse whatever you want to call it as would most of us. I am also sure she acted in an upstanding manner. Anybody wants to talk shit obviously has never met her. My best wishes to all involved.

First my prayers to everyone involved.

Brittney I don't know you but please let me state, as I'm sure your dad already has, Don't second guess yourself! You stood your ground and acted on what you saw in that split second. Don't for one second let anyone here shake your confidence in that fact. You have nothing to be ashamed of or guilty for, because you did your best and the person being mauled is alive and will recover.

PS If you have any trouble at all getting a hunting partner call me, I'd be happy to trust you to cover my back. Your Dad must be so very proud of you.

I Think we should listen to Adrook on this one since in 2006 he wrote this After much research, a buddy (possibly 3 of us, one guy hasn't made up his mind) and I are ready to book our first safari. I have learned tons from reading everyone's posts and for that I am eternally grateful. I can't imagine trying to do this without a resource like AR (thanks
Saeed!).

Im Sure with his vast safari history he knows it all please if you ask me he just wants attention donttroll

Nobody in their right mind could ever blame CB's daughter. The same thing happened in Zimbabwe a couple of years except the leopard jumped onto the dog handler, mauled him then jumped onto the PH and as it was about to thread him the client shot and missed and hit his friend, the observer, in the calf, blew his calf muscle off. He had done three tours to vietnam and never been shot, one leopard hunt with his mate and he is left with nearly half a leg.
Brittany definately did what she thought was best and unfortunately someone was shot.
