Well, it may seem like a positive article about hunting, but the author, Dwight Garner, still seems to be making fun of the pursuit of wild game. He seems more bent on being clever in his writing than to portray hunting in any kind of positive light. Typical New York Times style of writing.

"Darling of the right wing." No wonder the leftists are so big on disarmament. The poor things are probably terrified of nasty hunters, then comes a daughter, a turncoat, no less, who joins the ranks of the bambi slayers.
"blow things away." WTF, I can just see them damn "hunters," with their 40mm grenade launchers, 81mm mortars and their 155mm field guns, blowing things away?
"mowing down animals." Yeah! With a 7.62mm GPMG.
