Mauser K98What To Do With Your Firearms At Hotel?
If my wife and I get to go on safari in Namibia, we would like to spend a day or two in Windhoek before or after the hunt.
We have to eat dinner at "Joe's Beer House". (Do you need reservations?) We know this is a "Must Do" for all hunters.
How do you secure your firearms at your hotel in Windhoek? Does the hotel secure them or do you secure them on your own in your room?
Thanks for any help.

A.DahlgrenMost every hotel will store em for you, and get a reservation for Joe´s just to be sure even though I think it will be ok to just drop in.

G L KrauseI stayed at two major hotels in Windhoek and both stored my firearms in a locked storage room. They didn't even give me the choice.

Tim CarneyYou'll find that the smaller hotels/pensions do not really have their own lockable storage areas and you'll have to lock your firearms in your own room. Never had a problem...

kudu4uWhen locking firearms in a hotel room I at least stand the case up and place in the back of the closet or place under the bed. Wouldn't just leave it out in plain view.

As I'm sure you guys are aware, the gun laws here in the UK are pretty tight. The way the law reads, if you left your guns in a room or in the trunk of your car and they get stolen, it is YOUR fault!!! If, however, you have the bolt, or forearm, in your possession and they get stolen, then the gun is useless and you do not get in trouble (read: Lose your certificate) I have a bolt holster so I can carry it on my belt if I need to leave my rifle. If I'm using my double rifle or one of my shotguns and need to leave it in the hotel I simply remove the fore arme and take it with me.

LionHunterI keep a cable lock wrapped around the handles of my TuffPak and have used it to secure the case to a fixed object in hotel rooms. Works great, especially in facilities without a strong room.

cal pappasMauser K98: I've been in this situation a few times and if the hotel does not have a safe for gun storage with a full-time keeper, I opt for room service as I won't leave the guns in the room without me there.

JaglavI got back from Windhoek earlier this month. Stayed at the Windhoek Hilton and they had a secure storage area for firearms. No problems whatsoever.
Joe's Beer House is great and I definitely suggest reservations.
Have fun.

Michael RobinsonJust sling it over your shoulder and take it with you when you leave your room. At Joe's, they won't even notice.
