Can anyone reccomend an outfit for Cameroon?
I'm interested in Lord Derby Eland, a friend of mine Bongo, and I would love to hunt the giant forest hogs and red river hogs.

As Anton suggests you should go for CAR and Cawa: I hunted Cameroon twice for LDE without even seeing one! With CAWA in CAR I shoot one the first day.

contact FARO WEST SaFARIES. Pierre is 100% on giant eland and i have personally shot a real nice one along with, roan,buffalo,kob,hartebeest,harnessed bushbuck, red flanked duiker, oribi and a couple of other species. I saw many eland and almost all were shooters. Go in jan or feb for big black necks. the camp is outstanding, air conditioned and food is fantastic.PM me and i will get you some pictures

Also, you are not going to shoot LDE and Bongo in Cameroon in one area during one hunt. Cameroon is separate areas, separate hunts, at different times.

CAR gives you the opportunity for two species on one hunt in a reasonably close proximity.

CAWA does well on LDE and gets the occasional Bongo in addition to a LDE.

GF Hog comes down to luck. That said, CAWA shoots several each year.

Mayo Oldiri Safaris, PH Guav Johnson

I met Guav in Zimbabwe where he hunts when not in Cameroon or other such places. Great guy; he let me tag along as an observer on an elephant hunt.

Ngong Safaris. I hunted the savannah in 2004 for Western Roan and could have taken Lord Derby Eland on 4 different occasions. The outfit is run by a Dutch fellow named Borge Lagdeford. He also runs a camp in the forest for Bongo.

One thing that makes this outfit kind of unique is that there are no air charters. That alone will save you several thousand dollars. Look on the hunting reports page on this website and you'll find a report on that hunt.

knowing your passion for hunting hard, I suggest you a contact with to Cameron Grieg (camshaft in the forum) for a self guided hunt. He Offered a very attractive bongo hunt few weeks ago.

I have hunted in Cameroon four times. The quality and quantity of game go in hand with the quality of the outfitter. One my first hunt in 2004 I filled two licenses in 14 days, two LD, two buff, two bush buck, two kob, two warthog etc, etc. I saw more game than any other place I have hunted in Africa. I also filmed the entire hunt which complicates the safari.

I agree with Psmith, Mayo Oldiri runs one of the best operations in all of Africa in one of the most difficult locations. Cameroon is not the easiest country to get in and out of. Go with a reputable outfitter, Cameroon is not the place for a deal.

I also agree with his PH selection. I hunted with Guav Johnson (Zimbabwean) and son of the great Johnny Johnson who his shooting all the big tuskers with Kambako safaris in Mozambique.

Guav besides being one of the best PH’s in the business is a lot of fun on safari. Just ask, Boddington, Shockey, or Mike Rogers.
