nitro450expWhat to do ?
Hello,
I find myself with an extra complete lower ( AR 15 ).
What to do ?
Build a dedicated 22 LR rifle.
Build a dedicated 7.62x39 rifle.
Or another .223 rifle.
Ideas ?

Antelope SniperDepends, what do you already have?
What are you most likely to want to switch between quickly?

ZekeWhat kind of lower? Telestock or A2?
I have four uppers and five lowers. I figure I have 5.56 covered.
One lower is an A2 with a tricked out trigger and the buttstock filled with bird shot.
This lower is for bench shooting and longer range shooting. You might consider a dedicated lower for bench shooting.
If you need another upper, look at a 6.8 SPC, 6x45, or a 6MM BRX.
FWIW, Next tax time I'm getting a barrel/bolt combo for a 6MM BRX.
That's a 6MM BR with the shoulder moved forward to take more powder.
It's getting some attention in AR circles. Flat shooting and very long range. Works best with bullets under 100 grains.

Antelope SniperMy to two choices would probably be a 6.8 SPC II or a long barreled flat top with good glass for LR varmit shooting.

Rick R+1 on some type of dedicated long range/precision build.
You're not going to hit it hard with a .223 you might as well hit it in the right place.

It really depends on what you want to use it for.
Just shooting/plinking-- a dedicated 22lr.
Long range-- look at the 6.5 Grendel
Just blasting- whatever is the cheapest ammo available to you.
Or, maybe buy a vey good mid length gas system upper in 223 to try out- like Bravo Company or Daniel Defense or Noveske.
The current trend seems to be mid length gas systems and 1/7 twist barrels.

The AR-15 platform is not the best for a "dedicated" 22LR for many reasons.
ARs in 7.62x39 can be finicky feeders.
I have a .450 Bushmaster and I think it's great.
The 6.8SPC might be fun.
What about turning it into a single shot .338 Lapua?

woodnutHere's a thought; assuming you are shooting yotes and PDs, have good 223s for most cases; I'd recommend one of these two. Either a 223 AI. or the 6mm AR Turbo for reaching further out . Also, don't overlook the great 20 TAC (driver). I've got the 223AI and 20 TAC (driver) and love them both for their accuracy, low recoil (I can see impact through the scope)and reach. I'm looking at the 6 AR Turbo for more energy at distance. Lots of folks like the 6.5 Grendel. I have an AR10 in 260 Rem. and love that one too for all the above reasons. Just my 2 cents worth. Nice dilemma to have !
