A Garand fires out-of-battery
A properly dialed-in Garand will not fire out-of-battery or did it?

Could have been a squib.

"Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

I was an out of battery firing. Apparently the assembly wasn't put together right or check to insure the firing pin couldn't strike the primer out of battery. Here's a website that not only explains that, but shows very good pictures of it:

IMHO it was a obstruction and not a out of battery incident. She fired 6 shots and they were all fine. On the seventh shot, she appeared to try and clear a round that didn't eject. If you watch closely, it appears that she grabs a case that was ejected during the clearing and then pushes forward on the bolt to chamber round 8. The gun then came apart as round 8 was fired. It looks to me like she had aa round that had no, or very little, powder in it and the primer was able to get the bullet just far enough ahead of the chamber so the last round would chamber.

They covered this pretty well over on Castboolit forum. One of the members actually emailed with the girl shooting the rifle. She was shoot Prvi ammo and she said she ejected the 7th round COMPLETE, meaning the bullet wasn't stuck in the barrel, tossed it aside, and chambered the 8th. She had pictures of the parts and you can see the barrel or receiver won't blown to pieces. It was definitely an out of battery mishap.

It looked like she rode the bolt down when she chambered the last round. Most likely causing it not to lock up all the way.

I would say out of battery. Sure came apart fast a freind of mine had a BM59 come apart like that.

Not a good thing

She also needs to work on her firing stance.

Was the gun built on one of those cast turds from Springfield Inc. or Century?

Speaking of turds, I had a forged receiver Chinese Norinco M14 blow up in my face about a year ago.Same thing, fired out of battery.

Could be the firing pin broke and lodged forward.

Indy

Life is short. Hunt hard.

You could see she pulled the trigger on 8th shot. It didn't slam fire. That rules out a broken firing pin.
