It is from a Polish K98, and also later used on the Polish WZ29.
Only the Polish used that front sight with the little extension on it and it is for a special muzzle cover that locks onto the sight base extension.
Of course the K98 is small ring and the WZ29s are large ring.
And the ONLY rifle in the world ever with the nomenclature K98 is the Polish small ring. Around here, all Mausers are called K98s; I get calls all the time; "I have this K98; I tell them, NO you don't".
Last one turned out to be an Argentine 91, mint condition but stock chopped off; I bought for $100.

That's it. The sight from my first Trinidad State Gunsmithing School project in 1975. I bought the Polish Radom rifle out of a wooden barrel in the school bookstore. Stripped to the action and bottom metal. Contoured, fit and chambered a Shilen barrel in .270. Converted the metal to sporter configuration & single staged the trigger. Filed up, polished, drilled & tapped the action. Stocked from the blank of Iowa Black Walnut with Ed Shulin, American Classic styling.
I sold the rifle about 10 years later to buy an airline ticket to Las Vegas to join the American Custom Gunmakers Guild. Sure wish I still had it.
Thanks for the info Tom~

We don't use Polish WZ29s any more; they are worth far too much as collector items. We butchered up too many of them in the 60s.
