Best new M4 rifle to buy?
I'm thinkin Daniel Defense, my oldest son (3rd Ranger Battalion) is recommending a Colt?

Thanks!

Chuck

Rule #1, have a gun.

Buy whatever your pocket book will allow. Then have mags, ammo and spares. Got the 3 B's?

We have lots of guns. My son bought a "custom built" M4 it's junk. So I want to buy a good one for each of them. Mainly for the range and zombie defense.

Chuck

I thought an M4 was a “military only” carbine that has multiple components that make it a tax stamp item?

As far as a “clone” of one, I have a Colt which is reliable and while certainly capable of the classic assault role (sub 300M), an FN which is less accurate than the Colt due to a horrible trigger, and the DD rifles I’ve tried are somewhat more accurate… but I haven’t tried a DD M4 clone.

The only M4 I have is a factory SBR- (Colt) and so marked on the receiver. It does have some for LE and military use markings.

Colt, LMT, Daniel Defense, & BCK all have “M4” models that meet Colt’s TDP that defines what an M4 is so any of them should satisfy that minimum.

I have two Colt 6920’s and a LMT that have been ran hard (tens of thousands of rounds) and haven’t had any hiccups that weren’t due to maintenance or running consumables like springs and seals too long.

Colt is my favorite but any of the aforementioned tier 1 brands are worthy for f consideration.

It’s also a good idea to have an extra complete BCG and buffer spring set up for each rifle… just in case…

Right, not an M4. A semi auto clone of one.
Now, I assemble all my ARs from kits I buy from Delta Team Tactical. These are the cheapest parts out there, and they always work.
Realize that all these AR pieces are just tinker toys for men, and are not really suitable for any serious purpose, but guys, especially younger ones, like them. NO wood, no blued steel, just painted pot metal and plastic.
I have a dozen of them in various calibers; come one over and we can shoot some. And yes, we have RRA, LMT, Les Bauer, ArmaLite used the be here, Springfield Armory, within ten miles.
So, it really doesn't matter which one you get. They are just toys. Barbie dolls for men, with unlimited accessories, is the appeal.

Decide what your price point is and go down the usual suspects list. Don't cheap out and get an old style plastic (non rail system) fore end version (a buddy did that - wasted money).

If you're not concerned with accuracy, just go to your nearest big box sporting good/out door store and buy one there that fits your needs.

Otherwise, if you want to have some fun, buy the components you want, with a good barrel, and put it together yourself. It is surprisingly easy. Or buy a complete upper, then buy the receiver (the only FFL item) and put the lower receiver together yourself (zero special tools required) and put a good trigger on it (Geissele) and the butt stock of your choice.

And I agree with dpcd. No one stops to talk to me at the range when I shoot my AR. It's a wicked pain, but I can barely shoot when I bring my beauties made of wood and blued steel. Everyone wants to chat about cool old guns!

I tend to share Tom's view, although I must confess to having most of the parts for one in .450 Bushmaster.
While Aero Precision has a good reputation for quality, I am here to tell you their customer service is absolute shit. I bought a lower from them on Nov. 12 to be shipped to my dealer here. The order is still "processing" and they won't answer emails.

Colt's M5 has my interest, and I don't need another AR.

Whilst not a M4, The Brugger and Thomet is quite a nice firearm. I do like the story of Karl Brugger designing their first prototype on a kitchen counter!

The Barrett REC7 is also quite nice.

I own the B&T APC9. While it's not an AR platform I can attest the the quality of B&T. I have put a suppressor and stock on mine, which in the USA requires the government's permission and an extra 400 dollar tax. That said, it's a hell of a nice sub-gun.

I have the APC223 and I agree it is a quality gun.

I also own a H&K, Daniel Defense, Barrett and colt. My favourites are the Daniel Defense and Barrett just because of their accuracy.
