SIG Sauer SIG516...
Anybody seen anything about this weapon? I have the January 2010 issue of American Rifleman containing a spread about it. Looks like a weapon we should give to our men: 5.56mm NATO, well-designed, reliable, Old World know-how in gunmaking, piston system, accurate, fires when drenched in mud and $1,300 each for the civilian model. Uncle can probably get one for less. Are not our men worth it?

i handled one a little bit this weekend at a gunshow. sure looked like a prime piece. only thing i didn't care to much for was the handguard. it was to big. in any case i can visualize one appearing in my rack, no doubt from a breeding pair Big Grin

I had one. Borrowed it for an evaluation. I REALLY like the piston system and more than that the mainspring is on the piston. Meaning you could have a legit side folding or under-folding para-model. I had an ACOG 6X on it and it's really a nice rifle. AR mags AR handgrip and AR stock all fit. The front handguard is huge. I did not shot groups with it. the trigger is a two stage. I didn't mess with it, but I'd give it a 5 out of 10 with my R25 getting a one and my Timney on the Remington VTR getting a 10

I'll be looking at the 516 carefully. That fella's got a lot of adders that really drive up the cost of an AR style rifle at a very decent price for a high quality vendor.

Hope they chamber it in 6.8 SPC II.

Nobody mentioned the weight of the Sig. I really liked it but thought is super heavy. I believe I'm talking about the same rifle you guys are.

+100 to 6.8spc II!!!!!!!!!

I'll put it on the scale in the morning. The ACOG is a TANK!

Sounds like you need the strength of a gorilla to carry it around...

To compare SIG piston to piston rifles,my choice is the SIG 556 over the SIG 516.
