Is the only difference between a colt 6900 and the 6940 in the upper half? I appreciate your help, this is not my area of expertise.

I would bet that whole weapon is subbed out. In a word....yucky. For the price difference (which isn't much) why not just buy a 6920 and be done with it. Buy once, cry once.
