My "Ultimate AR" build....(**PICS**)
Well guys….I took it upon myself to build what is, in my opinion, the “Ultimate AR-15”. I recently sold my factory-built Rock River Arms gun, and used that money to help fund this project.

My Rock River gun, when completely loaded down with accessories, weighed in at nearly 12 lbs. With this new build, I was able to drop that number down to only 9.5 lbs!! And if I strip it down and lose the optics, grip, and light….I can actually get the weight down to 7.75 lbs!!

This was my first AR to build from scratch….and I enjoyed it very much. Every time I went to the mailbox, it was like Christmas morning for an 8 year old!! I will definitely be building another gun in the future….

I also want to say a huge “Thank You!!” to Midway USA.

I hope you guys enjoy the photos….let me know what you think.

Here are the specs for the new gun:

-Rock River Arms lower receiver
-Bravo Company Mfg.’s newly released hammer forged 16” mid-length upper receiver group
-Troy Industries TRX Extreme 13" rail/handguard
-BCM bolt carrier group
-BCM Gunfighter charging handle (medium latch)
-Magpul ACS commercial diameter 6-position stock
-ERGO Tactical Deluxe Suregrip
-SureFire 6PX Defender LED light
-Grip Pod Systems vertical grip/bipod (steel reinforced model)
-Magpul PMAG magazines
-Magpul MBUS flip-up sights

Optics:

-Aimpoint Comp ML3 (2 MOA) red-dot sight w/ LaRue Tactical quick-detach mount
-Leupold VX II 3-9x40mm rifle scope w/ Warne quick-detach ring mounts

Ultimate? Hardly!

You're missing a bunch of 'mall ninja' / 'tacticool' stuff. Big Grin

Where is the laser? IR designator? Bayonet lug? M203 notch? Big Grin

Seriously, it's well set up, but where is sling attachment?

Haha....yeah I guess I should have said "Ultimate PRACTICAL USE AR" setup.

I have 2 QD swivel receiver points on the opposite side of the gun for my Vickers VTAC sling....(very basic, but very comfortable).

Nice little rifle, everything you need and the ability to add or take off everything you don't. Wink

I really like that hand guard, are the rail sections a factory option or something you added?

Yes, very nice build.

I think the rail you chose is about next on my AR upgrade list.

It is a truly awesome rail....VERY lightweight. The equivalent size rail in a full-quad version weighs around 24 oz.....mine weighs 10.5 oz (before adding the small picatinny sections). It allows you to only put sections wherever you need them.

Did you intentionally mount the front sight backwards? I don't see what effect this would have on the sight picture, but it is backwards, nonetheless.

Haha....good eye. No I did not do it intentionally. It has been flipped around since the pictures were taken.

Commercial dia buffer tube and A2 FH Eeker

Nice build. How does it shoot?

It is unbelievably accurate!! I was told the new hammer-forged barrels were accurate but WOW!!

It shoots 0.75" 5-shot groups at 100 yards using Fiocchi 40 gr. V-Max ammo....

Neat rifle.

I installed one of those Troy TRX float tubes on one of my rifles. After I got it on that slim handguard felt so good in my hands I couldn't bring myself to install the picatinny rails! Big Grin

What twist barrel did you go with?

Terry

Barrel is a 1:7 twist

That'll work for sure!

Did you use a stock trigger or the 2 stage NM unit?

Did you achieve the 7.75 pound weight?

Neither....I installed a Geissele SSA-E (which is a 3.5 lb two-stage trigger). It breaks like a glass toothpick. I love it!!

And yes....if I take off the optics, light, and vertical grip....the guns weighs right at 7.75 lbs (unloaded).

This has to be a fine example of man's messing with firearms greatest folly regarding function notwithstanding form. It sure is ugly, but I'm also sure it works well. There is no point in trying to make it pretty. You've gone too far for that, so you might as well spray paint it camo. Wink

I want one too. Big Grin
