Savage 99 Musket?
I was at a gun show in Sioux Falls last weekend where I saw a Savage 99 that looked to be in a military musket configuration. It had a very long barrel, the forestock went to almost the end of the barrel, there was a wooden hand guard, and a bayonet lug. The rear sight was a military ladder type. The guy at the table was very busy so I didn't take his time since I wasn't looking to buy, but has anyone seen anything like this? Thanks.

Those Savage 99 muskets were made for Canada in WWI, I think for the Montreal Home Guard. They are not really rare and I see two or three offered for sale every year. Dealers usually ask around 3000-3500 but frankly I have never seen them sell one. They came with a bayonet too. Calibre is .303 Savage.

I have never actually seen one in person, but there was one listed on either Auction Arms or Gunbroker about a month ago. According to the description it was .303 Savage and apparently the Royal Canadian Mounted Police were issued them for quite some time in the 20's and 30's. The rifle that was pictured looked pretty well used, and the seller ws asking something like $2,500 to $3,000 for it, and I doubt that price was very realistic.

Thanks for your responses. The one I saw looked to be in very good condition, although I didn't see a bayonet. There was no price tag, so I assumed it meant if you have to ask you can't afford it. Sounds like that was the case. Thanks again.
