Alf: You could be right but the W. Richards I examined was a piece of shoddy goods. Metal was soft and the breeches were unequally off the face probably due to the right barrel being fired most. It had Damascus barrels with multiple bulges. It also sported only Belgian proof marks.
In the same vein I have seen guns marked Parker Brothers as opposed to Parker Bros. that could well be from the same maker as the style was so similar. I would expect any gun that was sold or made in England to exhibit English proofs, but, I don't know when England actually made that a requirement and these may have predated that.
