CZ 458 O/U Double
2 years ago I acquired a new CZ 589 over and under double rife in 458 Win Mag, and the rifle was discontinued. CZ told me they sold only 5 in the US. It is a finely made, extremely strong firearm with 22 inch bbls, lookin from a distance like a 410 O/U shotgun. It is a no-nonsence no frills "stopper" degigned specifically for back up use by professional guides. Even though this rifle is of very revent vintage, is it a candidate as a collector's item?

Thanks.

It will be collector's item for folks who like novelties. CZ made them without doing their research. Double rifle extractors can easily over-ride rimless cartridges, so they are unreliable for dangerous game. Over and under rifles can not be reloaded as fast as the side by side, so again they are not used for dangerous game. They became aware of this shortly after production began.

I know wwwchamplinarms.com has re-chambered British and other doubles in 458 Win to 450 3 1/4" and 450 No2. with excellent results.

Sounds like a slick gun to me! No offense Kurt, but the use of a firearm in a dangerous game situation occurs in a very small window of time. I'd be more concerned with my double-tap shot than anything else. The recent video on the net of the lion attack showed the amout of time that elaspes in a truly tight situation. I bet my life on my CZ 97b daily, I'd not hesitate to do the same with their rifles.

it'll never be a collectors gun... perhaps "freak" ones....

shoot it, enjoy it.. and rebarrel to 500/416 when it comes apart...

I would suggest rechambering to the lott, and running lower pressure to match 458 loads.

It is pretty much a low grade gun, over/under rifles have never been popular and are unacceptable dangerous game rifles for the most part....this gun will never be a collectable gun as it doesn't have the quality...I suspect it will decrease in value over the years.
