Mauser Sporting Rifle 8 x 60
Would appreciate any comments and info on a Mauser sporting rifle that has the following stamped markings on the underside of octagonal barrel, only visible when lifted out of the stock. 5510 , 8 KAL 60 , A. SEEBER , Z(actually the Z has a horizontal slash thru the center) Eagle over N , Eagle over J , 940(have info that this indicates Sept. 1940 date of mfg) "Heart-like" symbol , G.M.(script initials). Other info on upper side of barrel shows: "VOSS & CO. STOLP/POM" "BOHLER STAHL" on left side. Rifle specs are: 23.5" octagonal barrel that steps down to round except for top ramp, Double set triggers scope mounts half length stock with horn forend, round bottom checkered pistol grip, cheek rest on left side, engraved trigger guard & engraved "butter kinfe-like" bolt knob. Sling swivels. Thanks to anyone who replies. Can email pics 7 more info for better detail. I am new to this sight and have enjoyed it.

Dear schwarzkittel, Thank you for the web site referral re.Mauser markings. This sporting Mauser has markings that are found in the first column- Deutschland 1939-45. Markings identified are "Eagle over N" "Eagle over J" "940" & the "heart-like" emblem (relates to the cities Zella-Mehlis). Can email you some pics of the markings if you are interested. Thanks again for getting me this much info. I am not sure of the "Eagle over J" meaning. Sorry for the delay in responding to your note, have been travelling plus some computer problems kept me off line. Regards, John
