A buddy showed me this old Winchester he has had for a few years.
General overall condition is good, although it looks like the gun was re-furbished and re-blued with some evidence of the old pits and dings under the blue.
Barrel bore is fair commensurate with age, woodwork looks grainy and oiled rather than a varnish finish. otherwise, mechanically fine.
What would the old girl be worth?

Rifle has Model 1876 written on upper tang behind hammer.
The action has a slide cover on top which is slid open when the lever is operated. Action has a round steel breech bolt.
the writing on the top of the barrel has been interrupted by what looks like a blank inserted where a sight was dovetailed in, the slide sight is now located further back. Writing as follows Winchester repeating (blank insert) New Haven.
Kings improvement patented (blank insert) 66. October 16 1860.
Bullet lifter plate is Brass. 2.3"x .833" in size. Trigger has a tiny screw behind and to the side of it which might adjust pull or over travel, not sure.
Steel butt plate with a small sliding brass capped aperture which could have housed extra bullets or accouterments.
Barrel and magazine same length at 28".
Bore at muzzle (not slugged) seems around .460"

It is a 45-75 or a 45-60. The 76 was never made in any 44 caliber.
Measure just the chamber OD at the rear and that will tell you; the 45-60, which is a short 45-70, will be about a half inch in size. The 45-75 case is around .565.
