tin canTwo nice Marlin shooters-
'94 Marlin recently acquired by a cousin; .32-20, clean bore, stock tight, action slick/not loose. Serial number indicates 1920's, I'm told.
Brass through pin looks like an addition.
A friend had one in takedown, 30-30, octagon barrel was marked "Smokeless Steel" or "Special Smokeless Steel", that is not present on this rifle.
Iron sights with cataracts- five shots at 50 yards/describing about a 5x10 inch rectangle... maybe not five
consecutive shots
Model 90 O/U .410, 3" chambers. Note engraved(?) dog scene, both sides.
What period?

Model 90 O/U
A net search turned this up
30th edition Gun Trader's Guide states from 1937-1958. If it does not have a full length ribbetween the barrels, it's a '49 or later.
According to Brophy in his book Marlin Firearms (1989 by Stackpole Books) marlin stopped production of model 90's in 1960 but they continued to be sold until 1963.
On page 417 of his book, Brophy wrote that the double trigger Model 90 was discontinued in 1957 and the single trigger model was discontinued in 1959, although sales of inventory continued until 1963. Model 90's made after WWII have a letter prefix in the serial number indicating the year made.

tin canThanks

The 90 has no letter in the serial number (three digits), so it's pre '46.

2152hqThat 'Special Smokeless Steel' marking wasn't used on the '94 IIRC. Just the 1893, 1895 and the pump centerfire model (27?)
It and the other bbl steel choice in those 3 models (which was mild steel marked 'For Black Powder') were gone by 1914 or 15.
Nice looking Marlins. The M90 in 410 is not seen often. They made a few in a combination rifle bbl over/ shotgun bbl also.
