Colt New Service in Caliber .476
I’m working on a research project and trying to locate any Colt New Service revolvers in caliber .476. I would like to hear from anyone who has information on any. I’ve been told a time or two that “I have seen one†but nobody can supply a single serial number or quote a published reference. I know this is a long shot but thought I’d try.

"Handguns '89" has a good article. Also "Colt New Service Revolvers" by Bob Murphy, Copyright 1965 by Worldwide Gun Report, INC. Aledo, Illinois 61231 may have some information that is helpful to you. The only 476s I have ever seen were a cased set of nickled New Service Targets at Jackson Arms in Dallas in 1976. They were not consecutively numbered. He wanted 1K at the time. From what I recall 476s were used by the English. I had a 455 at one time and I believe my ammo would work in the 476.
You are looking for infomation on The OLD Model--1899 to 1909. It was introduced in November 1898 in 476 Eley, 455 Eley, 450 Eley, 45 Colt, 44-40,44 Russian and 38-40. An early shipment consisted of 10 476s shipped to London on Nov,11. 476s are extremely rare
