If the receiver has been drilled for scope mounts, which it appears to have been, that significantly detracts from the value. I wouldn't give that much for an altered gun, particularly one that has been drilled. Most shooters I know prefer the later "double square bridge" integral scope mount versions (1949-1954).

I looked on the auctions last night and found that one. The bolt handle on the one I looked at is pinned on and not one piece with the bolt. The pictured rifle also has some raised structures on the bridges and the one here is like a military action in that respect. It's a sporter however with a stippled front ring.

I don't collect guns because they are orginal. In other words a pre 64 M70 with a pad that needs a pad is desirable to me. Thus the fact that this Mauser has a scope on it makes it more desireable. To me however it's just a light sporter with slow locktime.

I called a friend who like the members here is up to date on guns like this. He said that it's a rare old gun and they bring good prices but I would have a hard time getting my money back as it's priced up at the maximum.

At the moment I think I will let it go but I will wait a few more days. Right now I have to deal with the boat and the hurricane.
