TrouthunterBow For My Son
I gave up bowhunting in 1986 for a number of reasons, but my son now wants to take up the sport. He's deadly with my old Nomad recurve, but he wants a compound to hunt with and I have no idea what brand to tell him to have a look at.
Any help will be appreciated.

Redhawk1All depends on what you want to spend. New or used.

Don_GFor that money I'd look for a fully equipped used Mathews Outback. The fittings alone on a modern bow can cost $500 new.
I would recommend the Mathews line for a beginning hunter, as they are very forgiving to shoot and not critical to tune.
Good luck!

I have to agree.
First, how old is your son and what weight can he pull comfortably? If he's still growing, this could be an every year purchase. I would take him to a pro shop if there's one close. There he can try out various bows.

Ummm...WHY???
O.K. I admitt I'm biased as I hunt with recurves. There's NO benifit at a normal hunting ranges. Trad is pure skill.

There is no mechanical advantage...and best of all no mechanical headaches and endless new gadgets to "invest" in.
