For a first bow for a 12 year-old I'd look at the basspro or cabellas lines. They are relatively inexpensive and adjustable for a growing draw length.

If he's 15-16 and serious, I'd look at a 50-60 # Mathews - maybe even on Ebay.

Right now is an expensive time to buy, though.

A guy was telling me that Parker makes a good youth bow and that's what he got for his son. He got it at Cabelas and he said they worked with him to get every thing right.

My friend had a RedHead (basspro) for his son. It looked like a Reflex, which is made by Hoyt.

I, too, have heard good things about Parker bows, and I personally like the Mathews and Bowtech lines. My brother has a Hoyt and loves it. Bottom line, I think, is that all bows are a lot better than they were just twelve years ago!

Whatever you get make sure it has the adjustable module/cam system so that drawlength can be adjusted without buying new cams. You want it to last a while!

Hello,
I getting a longbow for my seven year old. I would go light with the weight. They will not be shooting deer at this age, it just needs to be fun for them now.
