I was reading some reviews on the Magnus and Zwickey 2 blades and was seeing alot of folks complaining about the heads coming apart when shot into an animal. Have any of you had similiar experiences? Are there other 2 blade broadhead makers?

Looking for 100 grain heads and they'll be used for elk.

I have been using Zwickey broadheads for 30 plus years and never had a problem. I bought 2 or 3 dozen at that time and still have 6 or 7 left. They are sturdy and hold up to any animal I have shot. Like most broadheads they are not meant to be shot into trees, rocks, etc. You can damage any broadhead if you do something stupid. The Zwickeys are a pain to sharpen but once you get them honed the hold a great edge. They are not the same as a razorblade insert as would be expected. The are heavy and tuff but will sharpen to the point you can skin with them. I have used a lot of different broadheads over the years to try different and new things but always find myself going back to the Zwickeys. I also used Muzzy but normally only the fishing arrows. I cant say there was a reason for that just the way I did it.

Muzzy makes a number of two blade broadheads. I used their 200 gr. phantom SS broadhead last month in Argentina to take a 2000 lb. water buffalo. The arrow entered through the chest and cut a rib clean in two on the far side with no damage to the broadhead at all. The buffalo didn't go more than 100 yards and was dead in less than 60 seconds.

They also make the phantom in a 125 gr. four blade configuration, but when the bleeder blade is removed it weighs in at 105 grains.

In my opinion you don't really need a two blade for elk...something like a Montec CS would do the trick just fine. They fly just like field points and get great penetration. I've used them for years on red stag with great success.

I like blood runners-3 blade for me but others like the 2 blade. They just fly better for me in a 100 gr.......

Silver Flames would be hard to beat. One piece construction makes it one tough broadhead. Sharpest head out of the box I have seen.

They would also be my choice when it comes to a 2 blade broad head

They'de better be for $30/head. They'de also better have some kind of magical power that draws the animals to within shooting range for that price.

For years I used Zwickey exclusively but decided to try Magnus a while back.Zwickey's are softer and easier to sharpen but the Magnus heads are tougher.You really cant go wrong with either.I still have and use both with total confidence.

I love my muzzy Phantom 200 grains.

I killed 2 deer with the same Mangus 4 blade Buzzcut.

Both were complete pass throughs.

On the second deer the blade went through the shoulder blade, as well.

It still looks perfect.

I run 4 blade Magnus Buzzcuts, and would have not issue with the 2 blade version either.

My Grandaughter shoots a 2 blade 100gr. Magnus from her 40LB Compound. Carbon express predator arrow,(she's only 14) So far, 1 hog, 1 doe, one of the neighbors goats (another story).... Complete pass throughs, all 30 yds max and only 15 yds on the doe. I was vey impresssed with that broadhead. I shoot the same broadhead with 4 blades never a problem...

PS shes cute too. Freshmen class princess. Any body looking for a good wife for their son..

I like the Magnus 2 blades. I have a bunch of Grizzly 2 blades, but haven't used any. Does anyone have any experience with them?

After reading Dr.Ashby' broadhead tests on African game I tried the 160gr Griz.They fly great but I found they bent to easily IMO.I'm sure the heavier 190gr version which he said performed the best of all tested is tougher but I didn't want that much weight up front.Plus my wood arrows were very heavy to start with.At the time I tried them I was shooting both tapered maple and ash and Easton XX75.

I shot maple arrows from an old Martin Hunter I gave away a couple of years ago. Recurves that pull 80 lbs became less than fun.

I think all those Grizzly's I have are the 160's. They look like they'd bend, but they also look like they'd fly straight. I might try them on muleys next time I draw out.

Just for grins during the past couple seasons, I've used both the RAGE 2- and 3- blade Broadheads.

OK, I've not tried 'em on Water Buffalo... but these Expandables did just fine on Whitetails.

I might have been wrong about the weight of the griz heads I had.That was quite a while back.I'm sure what you have will work just fine on deer.

Add a Steelforce to the mix,,, they are my go to blade on big animals, especially in Africa..

Bernie P. I would bet you were wrong about the weight on those Grizzlies, I thought that even before you mentioned it. I killed my first water buffalo with the 160 Grizzly and it is one of the toughest heads around. Grizzly makes two sizes and multiple weights in those two sizes, the 160 is the heaviest of the regular Grizzlies and the 190 is the heaviest of the El Grandes, personally I stick to the heaviest ones since they are the thickest and strongest and the least likely to bend. I have used Zwickeys and Magnus and always stick to the heaviest ones and have never had any problems on game. Magnus and Zwickey both had a time decades ago, when they weren't as strong as they are now, but I haven't heard of a failure in either in many many years.
