We have all been warned since childhood to deviate not one grain from listed loads in reloading out shotshells.

Of course we all have; not too often does the shotgun blow up. Still, wouldn't it be nice to know the real pressure of our hybrid loads, especially if they seem to work well at their chosen task?

Precision Reloading, Peter Maffei's olc company from New Jersey was bought out and reloacated to the great plains. It now offers pressure testing of shotshells with a conformal transducer. The toll is $40.00 for five shells. That is extraordinarily reasonable.

Just a suggestion for those more adventuresome out there. Oh, and don't believe for a minute that every load in the recipe books was run through a pressure gun..........

That IS eminently reasonable. And no, I don't load to the "book" in every case. As a matter of fact, my current 7/8th's 12 ga target load has both substituted primers and wads........

Not that I would do that with heavy hunting loads, buffered loads or other on the ragged edge loads, but after 10,000 or so rounds "off the books", I have determined that the sky is, as a matter of fact, NOT falling. JMO, Dutch.

7/8th's in a 12 ga? I keep trying to figure out how to fit 7/8 in a 410.

Do the powder companies still do pressure testing on loads you send them using their components?

I know Hercules (now Alliant) used to do that for a price.
