10ga Loads?
I'm looking for data shooting 1 1/4 to 1 1/2oz lead at about 1250fps. Hope to keep pressure 8-9,000psi for an older gun in good condition.

Anyone shoot a 10ga here?

If you want to do this, there are a bunch of loads that are in Ballistic Products latest Advantages manual.

That said, are you planning on cutting the hull and roll crimping for 2 7/8 or are you going for the 3.5 inch stuff?

To be honest, I always use the bigger loads when I shoot my 10ga so I don't have personal experience with these loads, but with the higher payload stuff I have had good luck.

I load a lot of 10 gauge 1 1/4 loads practice before season. They also make a great crow load. I use federal hulls, 700X powder, (1) 10 ga Nitro wad, (1) 10 gauge 1/2 filler wad, R-P wad, inside wad use 1/2" 16 gauge fiber wad, last 1 1/4 shot. Not a fast loading process but patterns nice, great for practice. Ballistic Products has some great 10 gauge loads in their Advantage Manual 8th edition down to 7/8 shot in a 2 7/8 hull.

How about brass cases from Rocky Mt. Ctg., and 4 to 5 drams of FFg GOEX or 35 grains (about) of Blue Dot. In my gauge rifles I shoot brass cases as they last forever: 300+ reloads with one of my 8 gauges as the pressure is so low. A slight crimp holds the over shot wad in place and you can use a wad and shot cup or not--your choice.

cal need a load for my 8 gauge would you have something for a front loaded 8

Anyway it matters not, because my experience always has been that of---- a loss of snot and enamel on both sides of the 458 Win----

Stradling:
I've never shot a front loader, but have lots of data for cartridge 8s with both black and smokeless. Tell me the diameter of the ball and the weight and I'll tell you what I have.

This thread is now a little dated but I have found a very good load that I will share. I have an old LC Smith 10 ga 2 7/8 in double that is in great shape. After trying about a half dozen different loads I found this load to be the best I have tried.
10 ga Win 3 1/2 inch polyformed cases trimmed to 2 7/8 in. ( I use a pie crimp). Fed paper base plastic cases also work with this load.

Win 209 primers
35 grs SR4756
Rem SP 10 wad
1 1/2 oz lead shot
Paper disc overshot Vel approx. 1210 fps
Pressure in the 5500 to 5700 psi range.
Patterns very well in my gun ,easy on cases, deadly on crows.
I have procured a bag of Bismuth shot and I am in the process of testing this load with bismuth. Plan on trying this on some ducks this fall.

Snowman, if you wanted to treat us to photos of your sweet Smith, we would be much obliged.

Bill I am a technically challenged old fart and do not own a digital camera. I could get one of my boys to take some pics and send them to me and I could send those to someone to post them for me. Anyone interested?
