cal pappasMEC 10 gauge 2 7/8" press wanted
Gents:
I just added a 10-bore double shotgun and a 10-bore double rifle to my gun safe and hope to begin reloading before winter.
Any of you have the simple single stage MEC press for the 2 7/8" 10 gauge you wish to part with? I don't know the name of it, but the low-end one-shell-at-a-time press.
If it's reasonable, I'll take it and any paper, plastic, or brass cases you want to sell.

A/C guyMEC 600 Jr?
I think Snowman was setting one up to do the same, last summer. Might be worth checking with him.
2-7/8" isn't a standard height for the MEC, but may work by drilling new mounting holes, spacers, etc.

snowmanCal I went through the same exercise a couple years ago. Picked up a lovely old LC Smith 10 ga 2 7/8 in gun. Had an old Mec 250 press.Found a partial set of used 10 ga dies, bought some parts from Mec and McGivered everything together. You are not likely going to find 2 7/8 in cases. I picked up a supply of 3 1/2 in cases and cut them down. I have a couple low pressure loads that work well. Shoot me a PM if your interested and I will share them with you.

k-22hornetLike Snowman, I cut down the long shells to 2 7/8 to make duck loads with Bismuth.
I used a roll crimper from BPI and it worked great, if a little slow.

crbutlerAll the 10 ga 2 7/8 shells I have seen have been roll crimped.
A hull vice and roll crimper are cheap. Look at Ballistic Products web page. Get the hull reconditioning tool and you can keep using those hulls.

snowmanThe 3 1/2 in cases I have been cutting down to 2 7/8 in are being crimped with a folded crimp in the MEC press. During the first crimping operation I pay close attention to ensure the 6 pie crimp goes nicely. After that they crimp like a dream. I prefer a folded crimp but if a roll crimp floats your boat......go for it.

buckeyeshooterHere is a good place to get a press, they have 3 1/2 10's in stock.
http://www.ballisticproducts.c...oaders/products/696/You can buy brass cases here in the length you want. They are pricy but never wear out. I use them for my 10 gauge in cowboy Action Shooting with black powder.
