Browning B-78..Which is it?
Trying to identify my .30-06 Browning B-78 Octagonal tapered 26" barrel. Need to order scope bases and Leupold identifies everything as an 1885.

Rifle says " W57 " then SN# 102XX

SKU 51260 = STD Browning 1885 Low Wall 2pc

SKU 50012 = STD Browning 1885 High Wall 2pc

So how do I know if it is a Low Wall or High Wall? Not finding much doing google searches.

If the rear of the frame behind the block is as high as the block it is a high wall. If the frame dips down and leaves half of the block unsupported, it is a low wall.

Thank you DPCD, I just saw this over on 24H..

The Browning 78 is similar to the 1885 High Wall rifle. In fact, it will use the same bases. Our two-piece STD base is number 50012. To make this base system work on the 78, you will have to use two different heights of rings. For example, a low ring in the rear and a medium in the front.

B-78 with Talley one piece base and rings!

1885 Highwall

Highwalls in the past have had 28" barrels and a straight stock. B-78's have had 26" barrels and a grip, usually with a stainless or other metal grip cap.

ya!
