I finally found a stalking rifle in a classic caliber. I came across a BRNO hammerless break-open single shot rifle in 7x57r. It weighs 5lbs 12ozs and has a 24” barrel. It came with two boxes of 156gr Norma Oryx ammunition. I tested it out yesterday and found that it shoots to the sights with the Norma ammunition. I can’t wait to take it after some hogs this summer. It should carry like a dream!

I tried looking up the ZBH 110 model number and found that the rifle imported to the US under that designation was a different action and was never chambered for anything bigger than a 222 Rem. There are no import marks on my rifle and the action appears to be identical to the BRNO/CZ Effect rifle imported 10 years ago. The original owner said he bought the rifle second hand 30 years ago. I will probably restock the rifle as wood to metal fit and wood quality leaves much to be desired.

Here are a few pics of the little guy:

I put out a WTB ad in the classifieds for 7x57r brass and heavy for caliber bullets. So let me know if you have either for sale.

Thanks,

RC

It very closely resembles the Savage mod 219 SS that came in 22 Hornet, 30-30, and 25-20..If you ever decide to sell it please put me on the list!!

Does it have any Brno markings? Im a Brno collector off and on, mostly the small ring mod.21 and 22s, class rifles.

So I went and shot a couple of groups with the little BRNO. I was blown away by this group! Just a bit over a half-inch at 50yards with open sights! The load was a 175 RN Hornady Interlock with Hodgdon Hybrid 100v powder. The book shows 2300fps out of the 24” barrel. I am going to look for a low-power Leupold scope for it and go hunting!!

I also shot just over an inch with 175 Hornady spitzers but I feel the RN suit this rifle to a T!

Nice little rifle. You might want to try a 140ish grain at 2650 fps. Perfectly adequate to 200 plus yards on deer. Brass should last a long time, I have 10 plus loads out of my RWS 7x65r brass.

Check the measurements, but I think you can use 7x57 mauser ammo in the 7x57r if you really cannot find the rimmed version. You will need to check the shoulder length as that is where it will headspace. It won’t have a rim of course, but cases normally just fall out. And you might be able to form cases out of 303 brass. Shoulder does need bumping back a bit though.
