A LGS has hooked me up with a guy who wants to sell his Ruger No.1 in 38-55. I have no idea of it's current value, but I know I'd like to buy it. Can anyone give me a range of values on this rifle today? Thanks!

Wow! Did not know Ruger even made a .38-55. Wonder if the groove diameter is the proper and traditional .379.

These days if you can get it for less than 1300 you did pretty good.

I should have purchased a lot more No. 1's when they were on the used market for less than $600

No one wants the old groove diameter of 379; which is why most new 38-55s are .375s.

Aw, gee, Tom, that's no fun -- like building a .303 British around a .308 barrel.

I had one of the .38-55 Ruger No.1s years and years ago and have always regretted parting with it. As I recall, the groove diameter was larger than .375" and that was one of the motivators to sell it. Dumb, dumb, dumb on my part. There were very few made.

Like any of the more rare No.1 chamberings, I'd guess a collector of these things would pay well over going rates for this one. I wouldn't part with one for less than $2K.

I have a bunch of Ruger No. 1s and I never knew they were ever chambered for 38-55! I would say this is a real collector's find!

IIRC my No.1 .38-55 likes .377 bullets. The .379 lead bullets I had loaded for a Winchester 1894 would not chamber in the Ruger.
