I had a Handy-rifle which is the same rifle but a standard stock. It was in 45-70 and shot very good. A friend has a 30-30, and a .22 Hornet and they are both very good shooters. They are good rifles for the money but the plastic stock on the Survivor is too much for me. Good luck.

That is a fairly cheap fix. [Big Grin] You can purchase the synthetic buttstock for around 25-30 bucks direct from them. I had already figured that the goofy buttstock was gonna go......

Thanks for the info! [Wink]

Check out this Yahoo group:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/nef-singleshot/
You'll need to make an account if you're not a Yahoo member (it's free). The whole forum is all NEF/H&R rifles.

Also check out Sports South:
http://www.internetguncatalog.com/
They have pix, info and retail prices of the NEF/H@R line.
Use their "Super search" on the left and scroll down to "H&R 1871 Inc".

Remember, you can order different extra barrels for most of the guns. Most shotgun barrels are $35, and most rifle for $75. Stocks/forends are also available.
