Then the "Bush" decided to give me very very special sighting...

It lasted maybe 30 seconds but this is the 2nd "Blacky" in 30 odd years for me and I enjoyed every second of it...

Interaction with Black Rhino seems less and less these days, so this is indeed a wonderful sighting. I have always admired them more over their White cousins.

A small story. After translocating Black Rhino into one of the IPZ areas (Intensive Protection Zones) in Zim, many years ago, one particular female was aggrieved at her journey. Being "free release" meant a case of opening her container and allowing her to simply run off into her new home. She was pissed !! The first thing that came into view was a brand new Nissan bakkie, which she promptly dis-assembled with a few lusty thrusts, and that after bowling over her container several times. The strength of these beasts is immense.

I pray for their survival !!!!

Neil,

It sounds like there would have been some great action photos and a few choice words during the incident...

Going back permanently I hope to get regular encounters as field/trails guide.

Its a cool and misty morning

The plan is to head upto Phabeni via the S7 and S3 to start off with...

Growing up in Dullstroom I love cool misty weather something I dont often get here in the desert

And it was not long before I found what I was looking for...

I call them the Pretoriuskop sentinels

Also amongts the granite rocks a herd of buffalo took it easy chewing the cud...

I enjoy Cape Buffalo as there is a lot of character in the horns, bosses and ears of an old bull and cow...

This bull had an enormously thick neck...

Look at the rain drops on the skin...

Black Rhino has a parasite in the skin that causes skin lesions.

this one is a prime example what it looks like

While sitting in a hide I had a close eye to eye at a range of 5 yards with this elephant cow...

Luckily she was in a good mood that morning..

Look at the huge amount of character in this bore's head...

From the torn ear to the scratches on his face to the mud on the tusks...

Looks like a rough life and an old brawler

At 1st glance I thought the leopard was a female...

But looking at this photo I am more leaning towards a young male leopard

And the reason for him moving around...

Look at that empty belly..
