I got my first taste of marksmanship in Scouts, earning my merit badge from a member of the Fort Lewis Army Pistol Team. I found shooting good scores to be quite satisfying. Many years later, I participated in "light varmint" matches out to 600 yards on a shooting range built in 1942 along with Camp White, Oregon, to train the 91st Infantry for combat in World War II. One of those match organizers, a Vietnam vet, took me under his wing and let me shoot his benchrest rifle, a 6mm BR built on a Kelbly action, at 100 yards and I had the great satisfaction of shooting a "bughole" group of five shots in .16 inch. The Ruger rifle is likely not capable of accuracy as fine as this as it comes from the factory, but there are guys out there putting three shots on steel at 1,000 yards that you could cover with a credit card.
I find this to be both challenging and intriguing, and the general concept of shooting for accuracy has appealed to a very steady segment of American males since before the days of Ned Roberts to the golden days of the Creedmoor range on Long Island to the schuetzen era to Camp Perry to here. Apparently this segment of the "gun crank" population is poorly represented in Florida for some reason unknown to me.

Couple of reasons for Florida

Near impossible to shoot long distance. My range is 300 yards max. There is one thousand range yard in 150 mile area.

Set up at these long range is tough - weather - 4 wheel tearing up range - no backstop beyond a man made bearm.

Most ar buyers in Florida are shooting indoors - the sad state of Florida shooting.

I think Ruger precision rifle is interesting. I would buy one for for fun other than the fact my blaser success is more comfortable stock and the gun shoots just as well.

I on the other hand cannot shoot tiny groups that my gun is capable of. I do like shooting steel at 110 and 300 yards.

It's the reason for the setting-up of the 'Practical Rimfire Challenge' (PRC), sponsored by rimfire ammunition manufacturers:

And there are now rimfire variants of 'Precision Rifle Series' (PRS) rifles:

PD, the rimfire stuff is really taking off. One of the most interesting to me is the use of the big black powder cartridge single-shots fitted with with a .22 adaptor from Lee Shaver or Dave Crossno's shop, or a purpose built .22 on a Sharps, Ballard, Stevens, Winchester etc.
