Must be the Creedmoor craze and stagnation of Weatherby sales is driving this re-invention.
As if the .264 WinMag is not enough of a barrel burner.
But there is that huge gap between the 257 and 270 Wby Mags ...

I think it is an answer to the 26 Nosler. Personally, I'd rather hear 6.5-257 Weatherby.

They did this in the 50's but I don't think they had the bullets to make it work then.

I remember seeing a very ornate 6.5-300 Weatherby that was gold plated and had tons of typical 1950's Weatherby embellishment on it.

It dates back to "The Original Pennsylvania 1000 Yard Benchrest Club..." early post-WWII.

The original was the 6.5 WWH. Weatherby, Wright, and Hoyer. There's a pretty neat writeup in one of the old Gun Digests I have.

That is interesting. what Edition/year of Gun Digest was it in?
I will look at it if I find it in my 2-dozen or so past edditions on the shelf. My earliest is 15th Edition/1961, IIRC.

And there was even a "500 Weatherby" that never made it to full proprietary status, about as soon as there was a 378 Wby to wildcat. John Buhmiller and Roy Weatherby both did it in the 1950s, eh?

Yeah, I know Weatherby made one for Herb Klein back in the 50s or 60s. I remember one heavily engraved and an old Weatherby box of ammo with 6.5 written on it with a magic marker. Seems like it was gold inlaid too. Guess the time was right with the 26 Nosler for Weatherby to introduce a "new" caliber. Good for them. I see they are touting a "New Mark V" also with better trigger/barrel, sub MOA, etc.

Oh I found it. Its in the "African Big Game Hunting" forum under a thread titled "Herb Kleins rifles". My bad, the barrel marking says "Weatherby .264 Magnum"
