with the trend, as in all competitive shooting sports, to an absolute minimum recoiling round, I propose: the 22 Hornet with a 1:7" twist and the 80gr VLD Berger spitzer...

Several years ago friend and I built 22-250's with 30" Krieger and Douglas barrels in 8 twist and using SKM 80gr bullets/4064 powder, turned in some very fine scores at Palma matches as well as NRA 1000yd matches. Basic Rem.700 actions, refurbished/bedded Rem. Rangemaster walnut stocks from then Numrich(cost something around $40.00,) hand stop, Warner rear/Anshutz front and rifle weighed right at 10lbs. Compared to 308 or 300Win.Mag. rifle as described, you wondered if it fired with such low recoil. Current set up is Ruger No.1 with 28" Douglas in -7 twist and use SMK 90gr. bullets. With Unertl 16x scope the rig is an ugly one, but it does very well.
