ELD MATCH questions.
So far I have not found a seating depth beyond (shove it in the lands) that makes a less than .5 inch load at 100 for 5 shots.

Anyone else having the same issues?

You need to provide more information.

A 300 RUM loves 225 ELDs a few thou short of the lands.

A Savage Lapua will shoot 285s into less than 1/2 MOA well short of the lands; in fact, it isn't fussy about OAL.

A Stiller Lapua shoots 285s incredibly well just short of the lands.

So will a 6.5 CM, a 308, and a 30-06.

I'll try that. I tried .030, .020, and .010 and then finally .005. .005 is a one hole answer, but I don't like them that tight.

Using Varget, but I am open to other powders.

Gun loves 95 Grain Bergers, but they are more expensive than the Hornady by $15 a box.

Not sure why .005 is too tight. Might present some magazine challenges but otherwise what is the concern?

What are we talking about? 6mm? I tried a few 7mm 180ELDM and they worked fine. I didn't do an extensive test; I just stuck them in somewhere near the lands and they basically duplicated the 180 hybrids I have been using.

No magazine challenges here. Even the longest, pointiest, heaviest bullets have plenty of room in my magazine:

It is great to have so many nice 7mm options!

Looks like you are using a meplat trimming/shaping tool...

Those are the 7mm 183 sierras. They come that way right out of the box.

The color on the nose made me think you used one. How do those shoot vs Bergers? I just got done shooting my 28 Nosler with 190 Bergers; smoked it at 800 and 1190 with wind calls from zero to 3 MOA. Shot my Savage Lapua as well. Did great at 800 but I had a bad wind wind call at 1190; missed by 2 MOA. Don't do that very often.

Sort of. It's a 7WSSM:

http://forums.accuratereloadin...6521043/m/7191005091

I have not seen a huge difference between several of the heavy 7mm bullets that have come out. I've tried the 180 hybrid, the 175 and 180 SMK, 180 VLD, the 185 RDF, the 180 ELDM, and the 183SMK. I've tried them all out to 1600, but not all on the same day over a chronograph in a rigorous comparison. The 185 RDF and the 180 SMK have a lot of bearing surface, so I seem to get pressure sooner and I end up with a slightly lower MV. The 183 SMK and 180 Hyb are probably my favorites, but they are pricey. Plain old 175 SMK that I tip are almost as good and much cheaper.

A friend of mine has a setup that he can dial out to 2500 yards. We've been meaning to put together a test of these various bullets to try and see a difference at longer range, because I'm not seeing a lot of difference at 1600.

My barrel is 9 twist, so I have not tried any of the latest super heavy stuff they have out now.
