I spent a weekend with Johnny a few years ago. Long live the legend

He lived his life the way he wanted and set out a line the day before he passed in his sleep. I will always treasure the times I was a guest in his home and the conversations at his table over coffee or whiskey.

A true legend in trapping. I didn't get the chance Tomahawker did, I did spend some time with Johnny at a trappers convention drinking a few cocktails. He could tell stories of his life forever. I believe it was the last national he attended.

I wish I'd drove out to hang with him.
