Just picked up a Savage 99 RS .300 Savage. I have had a few 99s but the RS has alluded me until now.

thats the one Jack O'Connor liked, He used it in 300 and 250-3000...Im a big Savage mod. 99 fan but never warmed up to the 99R (RS with peep) as its a bulkier gun with a beaver tail forend and a fine rifle for those that follow that style..I like the 1950ish 99F, the old 99EG, and the 1920 takedown and solid frames...Good luck with your R, BTW the 99s take to glass bedding really well and will usually shoot withthe best of bolt guns..

I hunt a lot by horseback, in thecourse of a day I never get off my horse and stay off trails, I like a light, flat gun in a saddle scabbard as I jump a deer or elk I bail off shooting. Its the best of hunting...adn the 99 in 308 or 250 Savage fits the bill..

I like the M 99 myself + the 250-3000 round. Several years ago I was leaving a gun show + a guy had a 99 behind his booth, straight stock, curved but, schabel forend W/ a tang peep. I asked him about it + he was selling it for a friend. It was in 303 Savage for $150.00. Of course I bought it + then found out that the owner had 10 boxes of new Winchester ammo that he would sell for $10.00 a box. Guess what? I bought all those as well. I lost them all in the divorce but it was a sweet rifle while I had it.

Never mistake motion for action.

The old 300 Savage is about as close to the perfect caliber for whitetail world wide..although I prefer the 308 as it has just a tad more of the same goodness, even though its not really needed..
