I have mounts a Walther KK 200 Match Rifle action into the YOUNG mahine rest.

I am checking the intrinsic accuracy of different ammo at both 50 and 100 yards.

I have roughly 70 different types of ammo, we will see what the results are.

I will post all the details when I finish, and in the meantime, have a look at these.

First, what a beautiful piece of machinery. It looks like it was made for the space station.
Second, what I find interesting is that some ammo seems to be 'linear' in that the groups about double in size as the distance is doubled, but others increase by a factor of 3x-4x. Bullet shape, initial velocity, or what? Do the manufacturers have specific loads for 50y, 100y, etc?

Same thing crossed my mind.
Additional information like velocity would be the icing on the cake. rim thickness could be another contributing factor, the human element has been eliminated due to the machine rest.
22 ammo analysis is ever so interesting. We spend a fortune on firearms optics and accessories but are at the mercy of the ammunition, unlike cf ammo where we can control the results to some extent by hand loading.
Thanks for the testing, keep it up.

I will post the velocity in my final report, on each target.

This rest is a work of art.

I look through the scope as I fire it, never moves from the point of aim.

Saeed, first of all, thank you so very much for all of these very thoughtful experiments.

The Machine Rest removes much of the human error factor. One perpetual set of questions in the Tuesday Afternoon group of .22 rimfire target shooters revolves around clean barrels and the compatibility of the various bullet lubricants.

Beginning about 1900, when semi-smokeless and smokeless replaced black powder in long-duration (100 shots) matches, conventional wisdom said "if you start with a clean barrel, it will take one shot per inch of barrel (25 mm) before the lube is distributed evenly. Only then can you begin to shoot for competitive score." Our collective tests tell us the old saying still applies. Another saying (modern) is that Eley Tenex or Black only shoots well with Eley lube in the barrel, but almost any other good ammo shoots well with Eley lube.

Here is a suggestion:

If you started with a clean barrel and shot 20 five-shot groups of one type of Eley ammo (Tenex or Black, all from the same lot, would the groups get successively smaller?

Then if you shot a competing brand, Midas + as an example, for the same number of groups, would they groups be larger or smaller than your other groups with the same ammo?

Then clean the barrel again, removing the Eley lube. Repeat the test again, this time using Midas + to provide the lube , and Eley Tenex or Black as the test of lube compatibility.

Thanks for your testing I am truly impressed.
I might add that a few of your tests conducted with the cci stingers are way better than anything I have done.
I knew the engineer/ balisticion who desig ed the stinger. His name was Walter Stevens, I used to visit him when he was still alive and has since passed.
He gave me a box of stingers and a box of magnums that cci had made up for him on his retirement. They had his years of service and hire /retirement year. Still have them, anyways he was good company.
