If we had a separate Forum for auctions (for posting links to, not for running them) that members might find interesting they wouldn't need to be Posted in various subject-area forums.

Jeff, the problem is auctions have a time factor and it's just one more thing the admins would need to keep cleaning up.

We are all volunteers here and there's a limit to the number of forums.

An another solution is for sellers to simply state their asking price followed by "or best offer". Seller and buyer then can hash it out between themselves by Email.

Just post it in the relevant forum(s), but NOT in the Classifieds forums.

If you really feel that there is a need for an auction listing forum, start your own.

One auction may well have a couple of double rifles, some big bores, some old military rifles, some collectible ammo, some blackpowder guns, a few single shot pistols, a few single shot rifles and a drilling. Spamming eight or ten different forums just to listen to folks bitch that I didn't separate out their particular interests? I guess it was just a bad idea. Folks will just have to find the stuff on their own.

the issue I have seen with auctions:

some people want to PM instead of post. Then there are hurt feelings when one is trumped by the other. It would need an incredible bandwidth addition, and deleting them in a timely manner would make the moderators even crazier than they are now.

Seems like this is all a moot point as the OP packed his toys and left the site.
