Greg has sold the below advertised spring bears but has one fall opening for $3800. This will really be a lot of fun as you will be stalking the bears up the salmon streams. Close encounters will be the norm.

Greg has 2 openings May 19-25 on his boat hunts. These hunts are priced at $3800 per hunter and for '09 will sell for $4800. Similiar hunts are now going for $6000.

The boat is absolutely beautiful and the bear hunting fantastic.

Greg Jennen told me he had great bears just out of Valdez and the photos below are the proof of that. All clients got nice bears this spring ('07) with the exception of one who had a little problem with his shooting.

Greg saw over 90 bears on one of the hunts this spring and no other guides. The area is virtually untouched as far as black bear hunts go and stunningly beautiful.

This of course is a boat based hunt so even if it is rainy hunt you come back to a nice warm, dry boat with shower, comfortable bunks and nice food.

There are openings for next spring 2x1 $3,800.

Thanks for the nice words. The bears whose pics are taken on the beach are very nice but the photos are obviously taken in a manner to make them look very big. The bear on the boat bow is a differnt story. The boat gives a real perspective of the bear's size and he is a real "SLOB".

WOW what a brute (boat), never thought I wanted to hunt the Black Bears but that rascal would peak my interest in a hurry. Good shooting.

These bears are why people hunt the rainy coast of Alaska. You might see a big bear in other places but they are so prevalent here and visible that your chances for actually taking a very good bear are nearly assured. 10-20 bear sightings in a day is not unusual and when looking over that many bears you have to find some really good ones.

I gotta wonder why they would put an unskinned bear in the boat. It's possible they gut the bear, to cut down on weight first. But moving a true hog around is not a lot of fun.

It's a nice one, but the ears are not much 'smaller' than either of the other two examples. They are very hard to judge though, just by the ears.

I don't know the story on the bear on the boat but having hunted in those tidal areas it might have been more prudent to load the bear and skin it out later than to chance being stranded until the next tide.

Ears are not always the best way to judge a good bear. You may have heard the following before but believe me it is SOOO true....you will ALWAYS know a big bear when you see one.
And the last thing you will think of is..."is that bear got little ears?" LOL.
Black or Brown it makes no difference, the real fat biguns kinda lumber with bellies that stretch way down. They roll when they walk.

By the way, i have been in parties that rolled fat bears into the boat....sometimes you got to take back the whole animal to show off to your buddies. Not a bad idea to take your time skinning it too if you intend to do a full mount.

No doubt, after looking at that first photo of the pig in the boat i had lust in my eyes. I know how big that boat is and DAMN that bear has a head and neck on him to match those paws!
What a black bear...and massive shoulders too!

I seen two or three like that bear last fall along the Alaska coast. I shot a blackie that squared right at an honest 7 foot. But i will say that his head did not look as good as that pig in that boat!

Mark.... I did a little manipulation of the photo to get a better look at that big rascal and he is a "hog" for sure.

Interesting hunt and a fair price. That area is so beautiful that it's hard to explain and there are a LOT of bears there.

I think a 2x1 boat hunt for black bears makes more sense than many other 2x1 hunts. A nice black bear is not terribly unique from any other nice bears. It's not like comparing antlers or something. The seafood is great too. I wish I was back home instead of TX right now!

I've taken quite a few blackbears, and yes they do get pretty big in the Prince William Sound,7 footers are not uncommon, because they do feed on dead salmon, crabs, and other shellfish, I even saw one eating kelp. But i tell you what, you won't want to eat one they are nasty, However,I would eat a black bear from the interior any day. I'm done hunting black bears, I have enough of them in my house, and of various color phases too. It's not that expensive for a Non-res. to come up to Alaska to hunt black bears, don't need a guide for them either, black bear and caribou are some of the cheapest hunts you can do in AK. do the research...and you don't have to go a boat either.

This must be even a better hunt than I thought. A competing guide in this area called trying to discourage me from advertising on a public forum. That's a first. I had no idea this area was so jealously guarded by some of the guides that have permits to hunt there.

no doubt there are bears over there, but hearing this from a guide that claims to be in the top 1 perecent of alaskan guides and he's only been licensed for 3 years. makes me sit and think.

I'll take a cocky guide that can back up his attitude everytime. Greg is young but comes highly recommended by a couple of Master Guides he worked with John Peterson and Bruce Parker both of which I have great respect for.

When I did a boat hunt for black bear we saw 12-20 bears everyday so seeing 90 plus bears in seven days seems more than believable to me.

You said you didn't want to stir the pot but your comments nevertheless have put a veil of doubt on Greg's claims so I felt I needed to say something in rebuttal.

mark, absolutly a rebuttle is why we are here, i was sharing my thoughts after reading what i read was all, thanks for sharing your input as well. like i stated, not here to black eye anyone, just stating my caution.

Done a few hunts early may in this same area and we did well on blackies up high on the scree slides where the snow had melted off, very very few bears were on the beaches yet as they still had some snow and no real new grass to speak up, but up high in the valleys we were nailing bears, brownies as well. I think that might have been around the 7th or so of may.

Thanks for not turning this ad into a pissing contest. I strive to offer only hunts I would take myself. I lived out in Dillingham, AK for 22 years and have a pretty good idea of what it takes to generate a good Alaska hunt.

I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to run bear baits in PWS from 1998-2004. In that time, frequently sitting six or seven nights a week on my two allowed baits and baits of freinds, I'd easily logged 1000's of bear sightings. (Before someone calls BS, these are just sightings, frequently of the same bears and there's a lot of blackies in the Sound.)

I'd say I got to see a very good representation of what's available and when they show. Mid May was my choice for the big boys with good pelts. They were usually the first to show up about early April, but activity would be scarce and slow. By mid May, things were really poppin' along the beach fringes, like Jake alludes to, and the big guys are frequently showing their presence and keeping bear society stirred up. Trouble with later though is that the big guys would be at least "snow burnt" on their paws and chest from so much traveling for females and usually by June it was hard to find a big one without bad rubs.

Just keep your eyes open for the darkest spot around, watch it for a bit to see if it moves (and the big ones keep moving so it won't take long) and hope it shows that slow lumbering side-to-side swagger of the big kid on the block!

May in PWS is a sweet season.
