great bear, and it looks like it is well haired. Some of the pictures I have seen this season of badly rubbed bears being shot amazes me.

Doug, are you shocked at how bad the bears are rubbed, or that people are shooting rubbed bears?

I was with Dave Leonard of Mountain Monarchs north of Cold Bay on the peninsula. The guide was Peter Mayall and he did a terrific job. As far as size, I did not measure him so do not know, he was an old bear, will post pic of his mouth if I can find it.

Who cares about the bear! But dang...that location?!?! No brush on the flat in dry tundra!!! That in itself is an amazing score! Congrats!

Fourtyonesix,
Not so dry tundra, more like a swamp, 2-1/2 miles of alternating through calf deep wet grass/mud and knee deep, wader tearing alder thicket.

Steve,
you nailed it, how did you do in oz? Have you heard from Peter, how he did after I left?

Great Bear and congratulations. I wish I was down there this spring, but alas, some knee issues kept me home. Cathedral is an awesome place, glad you had a great hunt.

Riley Pitts wife told me they had taken a second bear. Peter's girlfriend confirmed the second bear this morning in a message. They have a bow hunter now. Weather hasn't been the best.

They got a 3rd bear. The bow hunter gave up with the bow and used a 338 after he saw how big they were. Cracked his forehead.

Last I heard, as above mentioned, they had three bears down. But, that was only a few days into the season, so I am sure they have a few more down by now.

Peter went 3 for 3. I think he got personally shut out due to high winds.

Hi,
Sorry for late reply....just got back from Zambia.
Had a great Sambar hunt with Emma. Passed up on two stags in velvet.
Peter did go 3 for 3 but did not get a bear for himself.
I will be back on the Sambar with him in a couple of weeks.
