That is a pretty rock bottom price but you might want to market it for $1,950 instead of 1,450 and the 500 transport fee. That's just my .02 though. Either way, it's a pretty attractive offer to hunt economically.

Patrick,

Thanks for coming over to Calguns and posting.

I hope you didn't mind me doing a little advertising for you over there. I'm trying to get more people interested in hunting in Africa.

I have never liked it when foreign language is used to converse between individuals in primarily an English speaking locale. I usually scold Mexican speaking individuals when they do so to mock or insult non Mexicans.
You gentlemen may want to take this conversation to a PM.

Patrick,

Can we buy 10 of these packages to market abroad?

Seems like a hell of a deal.

Frank, my apology, I was having a friendly jab at Patrick for selling such cheap hunts. It is just sometimes better said in Afrikaans.

A quick translator program reveals that it wasn't really a "friendly jab". Speaks volumes about you personally. You don't have to worry about me wanting to hunt with you.

Patrick, best of luck in filling out your season.

First one was a friendly jab, second one not, the last one again where I asked him if we could market them abroad. And the words speaks for itself. It does not take a rocket scientist to work it out.

Without saying it I think you and me have established before that we do not want to hunt together. I promise you I do not wish to hunt with every guy that posts on AR....there are a number I would rather not share a campfire with, and they for sure not with me. Some personalities gel, others not.

I'm further more entitled to my opinion on a public forum, as you are. Personal jabs is not very much frowned upon but rests assure that personal insults like yours are ("the type of person your are")

I cannot see how Patrick can sell hunts at those prices, but it is by far his good right to do so, and as he sold most of them, good to him.

Me and Patrick have spoken on the phone a number of times, and I would do business with him in future if he would want to.

I was just very surprised at those prices....still are....

Hey Patrick,

No harm done ! We are going to hunt those Buff together. I just have a problem with guys that have their "champions" and blindly try to protect them and try to discredit all other Outfitters in the process.

You know I was not having a go at you, but you also know that it is not good for our industry to undercut prices like this. Your good right to do so, and you know where you make your money, I just cannot for the life of me see how and where. It did look like a blatant attempt (succesful one by the sound of it) to undercut any other outfitter in the country even if it is costing you money. It realy baffles me.....

Good luck into the new year!!

You can spend money advertising by doing shows, mailings, donations, etc, or you can offer some cheap prices and have your past clients do your advertising for you. Nothing more than a personal choice.

And herewith the propper translation in context:

Infinito: Ag no Patrick, we are cutting our own throats with packages like these ( A friendly jab)

Patrick: I know it makes most of the guys mad ("moerig" even strongly suggest unhappiness with violent undertone), but it is still better than donations

Infinito: And that is why we (most people in the industry) decided to boycot it (DONATIONS) because we are kliing our own throats.
A serious statement that I felt strongly about and not a friendly jab

And then my reference to buy 10 packages to go and market it for us abroad as we will make more money doing it. A friendly jab again with a serious undertone.

Sorry for the Afrikaans. Will never happen again.

Let me say as my closing on this, that in principal I would sell hunts like these to very SPECIFIC people that cannot realy afford to hunt Africa, but dream of it, to a limited extend.

Any case, I meant it as PAtricks good right to post this hunt, and also to voice my dissaproval on the subject. Right or wrong does not matter. He will still sell his hunts, and I will still feel against it.

I would suggest two things:

1. If you really want to experience Africa on a budget, and do not take Patrick up on this offer: you really don't want to hunt Africa.

I think he is pricing this at break even point to build a client base for future years. I applaud him for this generous offer. If I were looking for a plains game hunt, this would be my first choice. Besides, I'd bet he has a few little "extras" on the game list if you are interested. Maybe, Kudu, Gemsbok, Eland, and Zebra, to name four... I plan to keep him in mind for my next trip.

2. IMHO, it is in poor taste, and not a good way to attract any new clients for Charl and Infinito Safaris.

It comes across as sour grapes, and a lack of sportsmanship. It leaves a poor first impression for first time hunters looking to take the plunge.

My opinion.

This is a real "bargain", almost too good to be true however we take Patrick's word that there is no hidden costs or any hidden agenda anywhere. And this is a honets to good offer.

I have heard this from clients complaining that "bargains" pan out like this to often before, "that is a nice looking Impala... what do you think it will score?... yes it is nice but let's see if we cannot find something else" This scenario happens and the fact is the Impala will make Rowland Ward and score high with SCI... however for the budget hunter/first timer that is not the animal to shoot because it is "reserved" for another high paying client. The poor first timer does not have a clue and he shoots, maybe, not even a good representative of the specie.

Let us trust and hope the hunters have a good experience Hunting South Africa.

Good deal, Patrick, best of luck.
